Personal Injury

2708402741_52f12ae8be_o (1)We’ve all heard the phrase, but what does it mean? Ambulance chaser is not really how most of us would like to be described; it doesn’t exactly bring up a positive vibe.

Dictionary.com defines an ambulance chaser as a lawyer who seeks accident victims as clients and encourages them to sue for damages (sometimes used facetiously).”

You might envision a man in a shiny suit with a briefcase who hangs out in hospital hallways. Pretty funny, huh? Not so funny in real life, though. Falling prey to an unqualified attorney is a bad situation to find yourself in.

That’s why you need to thoroughly check out any attorney you hire. You need to find the attorney that best suits your case, personality, and perhaps budget. Internet research, referrals, and checking out your attorney’s reputation for cases similar to yours are key to choosing the right attorney. Billboards are nice for ideas, but they don’t mean everything.

Make sure that if you are approached by an attorney that you know why and that you don’t give an immediate answer. Make sure you are in the right frame of mind to choose an attorney, and that you don’t just pick the first one that springs to mind.

In addition, you need to find legal representation that gives you a straight, real answer. You don’t want to start up a case when you might not really have one. Make sure that you interview a few respected attorneys for your personal injury case. You need to find an attorney that believes in you and your case that you also find believable.

It’s easy to get wrapped up in a need for revenge, justice, money, or fame. But make sure you are starting a case for the right reasons. You don’t want to tempt fate at the whim of an untrustworthy attorney. You don’t want to get caught up in promises that won’t come true. You could put your legal rights, financial future, and personal reputation at risk.

Don’t fall for all the hype and fancy advertising some personal injury attorneys are able to do. You wouldn’t want to base your decision solely on a suave ad or appearance. And keep in mind, while the fact they have all the money for this advertising might mean they are successful, it might also mean they keep more of the settlement than you might like.

However, this is not to say that an attorney with a solid reputation for personal injury work is an ambulance chaser. It’s easy to create quick names and poke a little fun at attorneys—trust us; we’ve heard all the jokes in the book. But, sometimes good attorneys are given an unfair reputation by others in the field and a general misunderstanding of personal injury law.
