SmithLaw’s Practice Areas

Some rights reserved by ** RCB **SmithLaw is a general practice law firm located in Sarasota, representing clients throughout the State of Florida.  We offer a broad array of services in multiple practice areas, serving individuals, estates and small business.

We write about various Florida laws, guns, dogs, business, and budgeting on our blog a lot. But we also write about bankruptcy, estate planning, and personal injury. We enjoy using this blog to inform and educate a general audience, as well as our clients. Our blog’s wide variety of topics often reflects our interests and practice areas. However, below are the main areas we concentrate in:

You might have noticed that many of our blog posts are about bankruptcy. Debt is a real problem in today’s society due to our economy. That is in addition to the many other reasons people face bankruptcy. Debt from medical bills, divorce, death, and job loss are also common reasons for bankruptcy. It is not always the best option, but is something to consider in some situations. Our team is able to consult with you and see if this is something you should consider in your situation. Our website also contains a movie about bankruptcy in Florida, as well as an informational guide we have written about filing bankruptcy in Florida

Civil Litigation

Our practice is also involved in many types of civil litigation. Civil litigation should not be taken lightly, as it has many procedural hurdles to handle. Some of our civil litigation cases include: contract disputes, business disputes, probate disputes, fraud, defamation, and civil theft (but is not limited to these areas). We offer various payment arrangements.

Estate Planning

We have written numerous blog posts about estate planning, and there is still more to say. This area of law is quite complex, because everyone’s situation is so different. Some things were offer are: Wills, Living Wills, Trusts, Health Care Surrogates, Premarital Agreements, and Asset Protection.

We can handle all aspects of probate, including satisfying creditors, protecting assets, distributing assets, tax returns, and more. We are also available for will disputes and undue influence issues.

Guardianship is the legal process of appointing another person to manage the affairs, medical decisions, and property of a minor or an incapacitated adult. We can help with deciding to form a guardianship, petitions, oversight, managing assets, and even finding a residential setting for the ward if needed.

Elder Exploitation and Elder Law

We help with general elder law practice areas including asset protection, planning, and long-term care arrangements. We also handle elder exploitation cases-when seniors are being exploited by family or third parties.

Personal Injury

Personal Injury Law, also called Tort Law, covers any wrong or damage done to a person, his property, his rights, or reputation due to the negligence or wrongdoing of another. We can help with personal injury lawsuits that include (among others) accidents, dog bites, medical malpractice, wrongful deaths, slip and falls, and nursing home litigation.

Real Estate

We can help with various real estate matters, whether you are buying, selling, or lending. We can help with closings, title litigations, title work, and more.

We hope this has been an informational blog post about our general practice areas. Check out other blog posts to learn more specifics about these particular practice areas. As a small firm, we are able to offer personalized service. Our clients often find that we are able to help them with many of their legal needs that aren’t listed.
