4670815292_03c17d6a7c_bIt sounds kind of funny, but Sarasota probably had quite a few elephant owners at one time due to its circus roots. When a famous circus had its headquarters here, you could see all sorts of strange animals and unusual people. It was a real circus.

Therefore, it’s not too unusual to find strange laws on the books. However, are they still relevant today? Maybe not. However, if they exist, they certainly can still be enforced if someone wants them to be.

It’s super fun to talk about these silly laws, but it is often hard to tell fact from fiction. A particularly fun law to talk about is getting a ticket for leaving your elephant at a parking meter. This link to an Orlando TV station addresses what they determine to be a fictional law.
